Sam Hargreaves
NURSE PRACTITIONER
Sam Hargreaves is a comprehensive and empathetic Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience supporting adults across New Zealand’s mental health services. Sam started in acute adult inpatient services and forensic mental health settings in 2008 before moving to Melbourne. After returning from Melbourne in 2017, where he worked with Alfred Psychiatry, Sam joined Te Whatu Ora and has since delivered integrated care across primary and secondary mental health settings for Counties Manukau.
Sam has a special interest in adult ADHD, both professionally and personally. As someone who is diagnosed with and treated for ADHD himself, Sam brings a unique perspective to his practice—combining clinical expertise with lived experience. He is passionate about helping clients understand and navigate the unique challenges of this neurodevelopmental condition. Over the years, Sam has supported many individuals through the process of ADHD assessment and diagnosis, witnessing firsthand the impact it can have on daily life. Through thorough assessments and close collaboration with clients and their families, he aims to provide accurate diagnoses and evidence-based interventions, including medication management, psychoeducation, and supportive counselling.
Sam’s understanding of ADHD extends to its common co-occurring conditions, such as anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders. He employs a holistic, person-centred approach, addressing both primary diagnoses and related challenges to promote overall well-being.
Sam holds a Master of Nursing (Hons) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Hons) from the University of Auckland. He is a proud member of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation and Nurse Practitioners New Zealand.
