Anmol Chawla

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST
BA HONS, MSC & MPHIL CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY, MNZPSS AND MICP

Anmol Chawla is a registered Clinical Psychologist and the Clinical Services Manager at The Psychology Group. In his role, he brings together two important parts of mental health care: supporting individual clients in therapy and assessments, while also shaping and leading services so that care across the practice is safe, consistent, and responsive to people’s needs.

Anmol offers both therapy and specialist assessments. He provides ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) assessments for teenagers (13+) and adults, guiding clients and their families through what can often feel like a confusing process with clarity and compassion. He is also an approved provider under ACC’s Sensitive Claims pathway, supporting people who have experienced sexual abuse or assault to access care that is sensitive, safe, and grounded in evidence.

In his therapy work, Anmol supports people experiencing anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, sleep problems, trauma, workplace stress, and adjustment to life changes. He also provides affirmative care for LGBTQIA+ clients, and he works to ensure every person he meets with feels respected, valued, and understood.

Clients often describe Anmol’s style as honest and down-to-earth, while also warm and validating. His focus is on listening closely, understanding each person’s story without judgement, and working alongside them to find a way forward that feels realistic and meaningful.

Anmol draws on a range of evidence-based therapies, including:

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT): helping people notice and shift unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): building flexibility to respond differently to difficult thoughts and feelings, and reconnecting with what matters most.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): strengthening emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.

He is also trained in EMDR, a therapy designed to help people process distressing memories and experiences that can remain “stuck” and continue to activate strong emotional reactions. EMDR uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (such as tapping or sound) to help the brain reprocess these experiences in a safer, less overwhelming way. Anmol has also completed trainings in the Recent and Group Trauma Exposure Protocol, (RTEP/GTEP), which are specific forms of EMDR designed to support people shortly after traumatic events and in group settings. These tools allow him to tailor treatment to both individuals and communities, helping people to regain a sense of calm and control.

When clients work with Anmol, they can expect:

  • A straightforward and respectful style: he values honesty and clarity, while keeping therapy grounded in compassion.

  • Evidence-informed therapy adapted to what will be most helpful for the individual.

  • A safe, collaborative space where identity, culture, and pace are respected, with particular sensitivity to those navigating trauma or belonging to LGBTQIA+ communities.

  • A practical and achievable path forward, whether that means understanding a diagnosis, finding new coping strategies, or strengthening resilience for the future.

At the heart of Anmol’s practice is a belief that therapy is about more than reducing symptoms. It’s about helping people make sense of their experiences, rediscover their strengths, and move towards a life that feels rich, balanced, and meaningful.
