After recieving a diagnosis it is an important step for children, adolescents, adults, and whānau to understanding what is ADHD and managing it.

Work and Income New Zealand

  • The Child Disability Allowance is a regular payment for parents or caregivers of a child under 17 who needs ongoing care and attention because of a disability. Some children with more significant ADHD-related needs may be eligible.

    This allowance is not income-tested and is intended to support families caring for a child with additional needs at home.

Work and Income New Zealand

  • The Disability Allowance is a weekly payment that may help with regular, ongoing costs related to a disability or health condition. This can include costs such as medical appointments, medication, transport, extra clothing, or other disability-related expenses.

    Eligibility depends on income, assets, and the nature of the ongoing costs.

Work and Income New Zealand

  • Childcare Assistance may help eligible families with the cost of childcare and out-of-school care. This can include the Childcare Subsidy for pre-school children and the Out of School Care and Recreation Subsidy for children aged 5 to 13.

    Support depends on factors such as family income, the number of children in care, and the type of childcare needed.

Health New Zealand

  • Carer Support is funded through Health New Zealand and can help provide planned breaks for full-time carers. It is usually accessed following an assessment through a Needs Assessment Service Coordination agency.

    If approved, Carer Support can contribute towards the cost of an alternative carer for an agreed number of days.
